LONDON, England, Oct 2008 – The British Handball Association and Fantastar, the fantasy games specialist,
have teamed up to launch a pioneering Fantasy Handball Game for the Women's Four Nations Handball Tournament
which starts in Sheffield on 16th October.
Fantasy sport games have traditionally only been applied to mainstream sports such as
football, cricket and rugby. However, thanks to Fantastar's unique website, handball
fans from across the globe can enjoy the fantasy sport experience by selecting and
managing their virtual team of handball stars.
Each time a player performs well by, for example, scoring a goal she will be awarded
fantasy points in the game. The game rewards those who play fair whilst those who
receive cards and suspensions will lose points. The goal is to assemble a team of stars which you believe will
be as successful as possible during the 4 Nations Tournament. The winner of the game
will win an exclusive prize - a handball signed by each of the players in their fantasy team.
Paul Goodwin, General Manager of the British Handball Association, said:
"The Fantasy Handball Game is an exciting new concept which aims to generate
further excitement and interest around the 4 Nations Tournament. The game will also help
raise the profile of handball in the UK and increase participation in the sport as
we look to podium potential at the London 2012 Games."
The Fantasy Handball Game is the work of innovative website
fantastar.com, founded by internet entrepreneur Rob Tong. The game is built on
Fantastar’s cutting edge technology which also allows clubs, universities
and schools to set up their own fantasy sport leagues. The
free service helps grass roots sport by promoting team spirit and improved
performance while also providing an avenue for generating funds to help develop the
sports stars of the future.
