Fantastar co-founder, Rob Tong, will be joining a team of 5 friends on 11th
July to climb the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours
in aid of the RNLI.
The group of six (plus two drivers) will be starting their Three Peaks
Challenge on 11th July by travelling to Scotland and climbing Ben Nevis. They
will then drive south to scale Scafell Pike in the Lake District. Finally, as
the day breaks on Saturday 12th July, they will complete the challenge by
tackling Snowdon in North Wales. And all this in 24 hours!
Rob and his friends hope to raise £5,000 by completing this challenge. The RNLI
is a charity that is close to all of their hearts. In 2006 one of their team
lost his brother Rupert and two friends in a tragic accident when their boat,
the Ouzo, was mysteriously sunk in the English Channel.
The money they raise will go towards the Rupert Saunders Appeal in memory of
their friend. This fund will help pay for a new lifeboat at Bembridge, on the
Isle of Wight. It was this lifeboat which helped with the search and rescue
mission after the Ouzo was reported missing in August 2006.
Rob says, “We’re looking forward to the challenge. It’ll be tough, but worth
all the hard work. The lifeboat at Bembridge needs to be replaced pretty soon.
It is crucial that we help to fund a new one. The new boat will be faster,
heavier and more technologically advanced. The money we raise will mean that
the lifeboat and her crew will be able to reach people in trouble at sea a lot
faster.”
The RNLI rescues an average of 21 people each day. They receive no UK
Government funding and rely on the support of the public.
